"Unfortunately, she was interrupted by the paper suddenly...well...going up in smoke. Literally."
Combustible paper is an invention outlawed years ago. So how did Tracey Higgenbottom receive one in the motor-mail?
Tracey Higgenbottom, Mr. Porter's witty assistant, finds herself at a dead-end when constables dismiss a case of his possible kidnapping. Clued only by his glasses, a handkerchief, and a strange note, she embarks on a search to find him herself.
With the unexpected help of a spunky adventurer, a snarky chimney sweep boy and his attentive sister, and a reluctant records keeper (who holds a suspicious amount of obscure knowledge), she finds herself in good company on her quest.
Prying too deeply, however, complicated matters beyond Tracey's expectations. Whoever is responsible for Mr. Porter's disappearance is determined to stay hidden and will stop at nothing to keep her from finding the truth.
