Zhou Enlai (March 5, 1898 - January 8, 1976), styled Xiangyu, was born in Huai'an, Jiangsu Province, with his ancestral home in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. [1] He was a great Marxist, a great proletarian revolutionary, politician, military strategist, and diplomat. He was one of the main leaders of the Party and the state, one of the main founders of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and a founding figure of the People's Republic of China. He was an important member of the first generation of the central leadership collective of the Party, with Comrade Mao Zedong as the core member.
