Washerwoman, the beloved leader of the River People, carries a magical calabash that multiplies goodness a hundredfold. When the mysterious forest spirit Papa Bois embraces her beside the sacred river, she gives birth to Callaloo, a child of water and fire whose translucent body reflects the true nature of anyone who looks upon him. Mancrab, a ruthless force of greed, corruption, and destruction, cannot tolerate their unity. Through deception and temptation, he divides the River People, poisons the river, and spreads chaos throughout their world.
