Im April 2025 jährten sich zum 500. Mal der Krakauer Vertrag zwischen dem polnischen König Sigismund I. und dem Hochmeister des Deutschen Ordens, Albrecht von Brandenburg, sowie die preußische Huldigung als Folge des Vertrags. Damit endeten die Konflikte zwischen dem Deutschen Orden und Polen-Litauen, das gesamte Preußen gelangte als autonome Region unter polnische Herrschaft und es entstanden der erste, vielfach vorbildliche protestantische Flächenstaat und eine neue politische Konstellation im Ostseeraum. Die Beiträge des Bandes beleuchten die Entwicklungen in Preußen zwischen 1466 und 1525, die Reaktionen der Ordensbrüder, die Situation in Krakau, die diplomatischen und rechtlichen Aspekte des Vertrages sowie die Reaktionen im Deutschen Reich, in Polen, Livland und Litauen.

April 2025 marked the 500th anniversary of the Treaty of Kraków between the Polish King Sigismund I and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Albrecht von Brandenburg, as well as the homage of Albrecht following the treaty. These events brought an end to the conflicts between the Teutonic Order and Poland-Lithuania; the whole of Prussia came under Polish rule as an autonomous region; and the first, in many respects exemplary, Protestant territorial state emerged, alongside a new political constellation in the Baltic region. The contributions in this volume discuss the developments in Prussia between 1466 and 1525, the fate of the brethren of the Order in Prussia, the situation in Kraków, the diplomatic and legal aspects of the treaty, and the reactions within the Holy Roman Empire, in Poland, Livonia and Lithuania.
