Description

The purpose was to formulate Floating microspheres of Alfuzosin HCl, an orally administered alpha adrenergic blocker used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia with a view of improving its oral bioavailability and giving a prolonged release of drug.Floating microspheres with biocompatible enteric acrylic polymer such as Eudragit S100 and cellulose polymers such as HPMC K100 M were successfully prepared by emulsion solvent evaporation method. The particle size analysis revealed that the size of microspheres was found to increase with increase in the concentration of polymer.. In vitro drug release studies showed that the release of drug decreases with increases drug to polymer ration of microspheres. . From the stability study it was found that there was no significant change in the physical appearance, drug entrapment, release characteristics and floating behavior of the microspheres.
