English Summary: In this study the author assembles the Roman amphora of the area around the German city of Mainz. All pieces are documented with fotos and descriptions. Analyses of Mediterranian imports, local production, and nourishment habits show that many previous approaches have to be revised and allow new interpretation of Roman amphora. German Description: In diesem Band werden zum ersten Mal die Amphoren eines Siedlungszentrums auf breiter Materialbasis mit seinem Umland verglichen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Fragen zu mediterranen Warenimporten, lokalen Produkten und den Ernahrungsgewohnheiten der unterschiedlichen Konusmenten in den untersuchten Civitas-Hauptorten, Militarlagern und Landgutern. Neben methodischen Uberlegungen werden zahlreiche wichtige Fundbestande systematisch erschlossen und wirtschaftsarchaologisch ausgewertet. Dabei revidiert die Arbeit eine Reihe uberkommender Ansatze und zeigt neue Perspektiven in der Deutung romischer Amphoren auf.
