Description

Das Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges wird in den unterschiedlichsten Mediengattungen unterschiedlich verarbeitet und bewertet. Die Beiträge befassen sich mit Belletristik und Erinnerungsliteratur sowie Archivdokumenten, die nach 1945 entstanden sind oder die Nachkriegszeit dokumentieren und sich mit den Folgen des Zweiten Weltkriegs beschäftigen. Kanadische Romane, Literatur aus Polen bzw. Oberschlesien, Werke von u.a. Heinz Piontek, Wolfdietrich Schnurre, Hanna Krall oder Géraldine Schwarz werden dabei ebenso untersucht wie die Lebenswege von Hans Marchwitza und Arnold Zweig. Das neue Demokratieverständnis oder die Lebensbedingungen von polnischen »Displaced Persons« werden anhand von Archivmaterial und literarischen Texten beschrieben, der Blick von Sinti und Roma als Holocaustüberlebende auf das Kriegsende beleuchtet. Exemplarisch an einer bayerischen Kleinstadt wird der Umgang mit Funktionsträgern des 'Dritten Reiches' in Spruchkammerverfahren und damit der Umgang mit der Vergangenheit untersucht.

The end of the Second World War is treated and evaluated differently in various media genres depending on the country. The contributions deal with literature (fiction, drama, poetry), art, photography, film and remembrance (diaries, experience reports, etc.) that was written after 1945 and primarily deals with the consequences of the Second World War. This includes thematic focuses such as: Coming to terms with and dealing with war guilt/crimes, living and working in a destroyed world, living and working in exile, looking to the future, organisation, new beginnings. For example, the living conditions of "displaced persons" are described using archive material and literary texts, the view of Sinti and Roma as Holocaust survivors at the end of the war is examined, works by different authors and Canadian literature is also examined. The thematic contributions are supplemented by essays on the image of Russia at the beginning of the First World War in the Osnabrück daily press and on the border between Mexico and the USA in various feature films.
