Giacometti – Dalí. Traumgärten bringt auf einzigartige Weise die Arbeiten von Alberto Giacometti und Salvador Dalí rund um die Idee eines imaginären Gartens zusammen. Das vorliegende Buch wirft ein Licht auf ihre Freundschaft und ihre gemeinsame Vorliebe für die Erkundung von Traum-Räumen. Giacometti und Dalí gehörten der Surrealistengruppe an und verkehrten in denselben Kreisen. Sie pfl egten einen lebhaften, geistreichen und kreativen Austausch, und ihre Werke traten in einen fruchtbaren Dialog. Anfang der 1930er-Jahre entwarfen Giacometti und Dalí gemeinsam einen aussergewöhnlichen Garten für den Vicomte und die Vicomtesse de Noailles. Das durch Zeichnungen bekannte vierhändige Projekt bettet die surrealistischen Werke Giacomettis in eine für Dalís Stil charakteristische, weitläufige Landschaft ein. In diese Fantasielandschaft fand auch eine von Giacometti entworfene Skulpturengruppe für den Aussenbereich Eingang: Projet pour une place. Das 1931/32 entstandene Meisterwerk wurde vom Institut Giacometti in Paris nun erstmals rekonstruiert. Es veranschaulicht Giacomettis und Dalís gemeinsame Vorstellung von einem Garten und ihr Interesse für mehrdeutige Formen und Bilder.

Giacometti - Dalí. Gardens of Dreams brings together in a unique fashion the works of Alberto Giacometti and Salvador Dalí around their idea of an imaginary garden. This book highlights their friendship as well as their common taste for the exploration of dreamed spaces. Both were members of the surrealist group and frequented the same circles. Their conversation was bright, intellectual, creative and their works engaged in a fruitful dialogue. At the beginning of the 1930s, Giacometti and Dalí imagined together an extraordinary garden for the Viscount and Viscountess de Noailles. This four-handed project, known through drawings, includes surrealist artworks by Alberto Giacometti within a vast dreamlike landscape typical of Dalí’s style. This phantasmatic landscape includes a sculptural environment conceived by Giacometti for an open-air space: Model for a Square. For the first time, this has now been reconstructed at the Institut Giacometti in Paris. It illustrates the concept of the garden shared by Giacometti and Dalí and their taste for ambiguous shapes and images.
