German description: Die Studie stellt eine Grundlagenuntersuchung zum Gegenstand und zur Aufgabe der Leitung evangelischer Landeskirchen dar. Die Frage, was Kirchenleitung ist und worauf sie zielt, stellt ein vielschichtiges Problem dar: Dogmatik, Kirchenrecht, Kirchen- und Religionssoziologie beanspruchen hierbei jeweils eigene Geltungsbereiche. Dies notigt zu einem theoriegeleiteten Zugriff, der die Fragehorizonte zueinander ins Verhaltnis setzt. - In der Theorietradition Friedrich Schleiermachers erarbeitet die Studie Grundlinien eines zusammenhangenden Verstandnisses kirchlicher Leitung. Sie mundet in dem Vorschlag, Leitungspraxis auch unter guterethischen Gesichtspunkten zu reflektieren: Demnach partizipiert kirchliche Leitung an spezifischen Guterspharen, die fur die Leitungspraxis orientierungskraftig sind. English summary: The study constitutes a fundamental investigation into the object and task of the leadership of Protestant regional churches. The question concerning what church leadership is and what it aims at represents a complex problem: dogmatics, church law, sociology of the church and sociology of religion each claims its own areas of validity. This necessitates a theoretical approach that sets the horizons of questions in relation to one another. In the theoretical tradition of Friedrich Schleiermacher, the study elaborates elements of a coherent understanding of church leadership. It culminates in the suggestion to reflect on leadership practice also from the perspective of an ethics of goods: church leadership accordingly participates in specific "spheres of goods" that provide orientation for leadership practice.
