Since 1967, the Middle East conflict has been a key obstacle to peaceful and prosperous development of the entire region. Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories is the root cause of a wide range of violations against human rights and humanitarian law. Although the international community has produced a number of peace plans to settle the conflict, none of the plans supported by the international community and the Middle East Quartet of the United Nations, the United States, Russia, and the European Union, tackle the problems of deteriorating human rights on the ground.
