Paula Fredriksen is a world-renowned and prolific scholar in the field of New Testament and Christianity in late antiquity. Among her many publications are field-changing books and articles on the worlds of the Historical Jesus, Pauline Studies, Mediterranean society in late antiquity, Augustinian studies, and the permutations of the ancient Jewish-Christian relations. This volume, aptly titled In Praise of Wisdom, honors her impact on these areas of study. The contributors, from leading institutions in the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel, interact with and also build on Fredriksen's scholarship. The essays are grouped in three broad categories: New Testament and Second Temple Judaism, treating such topics as Herod's many wives, early messianism, and resurrection; Late Antiquity, with essays on rabbinic Judaism, Eusebius, and fourth-century Rome, among others; and Modern Resonances, with contributions on reception history, antisemitism, gender, among others. The volume will both pay tribute to Fredriksen and also constitute important contributions to the areas to which she has devoted her scholarly career.
