In dem Masse, wie Osterreich-Ungarns Zentralkriegshafen Pola in der zweiten Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts zur unerklarten Hauptstadt der Markgrafschaft Istrien aufstieg, verquickte sich der anhebende italienisch-slawische Nationalitatenkonflikt mit den Machtinteressen der k. u. k.
