Although the DADT (Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy) was established during the 1990s (but it has been abolished in 2011), even before that, there
are some men who also love other men, who did not dare express their love openly. Perhaps because it was the zeitgeist; the time before was
more conservative than today. At the same time, there were apprehensions to express romantic feelings because it was war time.

Gilbert McDermott never thought of himself as gay. He never expected himself to fall in love with a junior officer, Louis Jones. Both men
met at Sangley Point or commonly called as The Rock, a crucial US Navy Base during World War II located in the Philippines. This is not a coming-out story; this is a recounting of how Gilbert met Louis and how both of them followed their hearts and loved each other deeply. Although Gilbert had apprehensions about being committed to a relationship but in the end, “there is no right time to fall in love except now.”
