Deze publicatie neemt je mee naar de tentoonstelling Lucy McKenzie: Super Palace, die op 29 september 2024 opende in Z33.

Met een speciaal geschreven tekst van auteur Emile Rubino biedt deze publicatie een dieper inzicht in McKenzie’s tentoonstelling en de ideeën erachter.

Lucy McKenzie woont en werkt al bijna 20 jaar in Brussel. Haar werk bevraagt de rol van kunst buiten het museum, zoals in de mode, architectuur en de openbare ruimte. Ze ontwikkelde Super Palace speciaal voor de nieuwe tentoonstellingsvleugel van Z33. Ze benadert het gebouw als een weerspiegeling van de stad: een plek waar publieke en private ruimtes elkaar afwisselen. Beneden loop je langs installaties die doen denken aan een winkelstraat, treinstation of kermis, terwijl de kunstwerken boven huiselijke interieurs oproepen.

Super Palace was McKenzie’s eerste grote tentoonstelling in België. De presentatie omvatte tal van nieuwe werken, waaronder haar eerste bewegende panoramaschilderijen.

Lucy McKenzie has lived and worked in Brussels for nearly twenty years. Her work questions the role of art outside the museum, exploring its presence in fashion, architecture, and public space. McKenzie created Super Palace to complement the distinct architectural style of Z33’s new exhibition wing. She sees the building as a reflection of the city: a place where public and private spaces converge. On the ground floor, the installations are reminiscent of a shopping street, a train station, and a fairground, while the artworks upstairs represent more domestic settings.

Super Palace was McKenzie’s first major exhibition in Belgium. The presentation featured numerous new works, including her first moving panoramic paintings.
