Management of open apex in pulpless teeth has become an essential part of treatment nowadays in means of saving the tooth rather than extraction. Apexification using calcium hydroxide as a temporary material for filling is an effective means of inducing apical closure. Recent advances have been brought about in this field with the advent of time in the form of materials and techniques and newer treatment modalities have emerged. Due to these improvements in the past the success rate of treatment modalities has also increased. Newer materials like MTA, dentinal chips and bone morphogenic protein have shown promising results as compared to their previous counterparts. With a shorter barrier formation time, patient compliance is improved and any orthodontic and restorative treatment can be started sooner.
