As most of the population of India is vegetarian, the consumption of various vegetables is enormous here. Of all the vegetables consumed in this country, the Brinjal constitute the bulk of it due to its cheaper rate and easy availability. With increasing pressure of population the prime need of our nation is to improve the vegetable production.Tha knowledge of intensity and extent of fungal diseases occurring on the Brinjal in this area is inadequate. Inspite of great economic value of this crop, little attention has been paid to prevent loss in yield due to fungal diseases.Appropriate knowledge about the fungal diseases of Brinjal in Bareilly region is necessary as this is the important centre for cultivation and transportation of Brinjal fruit. Unique geographical situation and agroclimatic condition of the foothill region make the pathological study of the Brinjal more relevant and significant.Present study was therefore undertaken to study the various diseases of eggplant occurring in Bareilly.
