"The Day and the Darkness" is a heartwarming tale of Sam, a boy who lived in perpetual sunlight for a while, but sunlight fades eventually as the harsh realities of life weave their way into our world. As Sam navigates this new darkness, he encounters Tom, a wise cat who teaches him about the wonders and friendships that can be found in the night. Through Tom's wisdom, Sam learns that the darkenss is not without hope and that there is purpose, life and meaning in both the day and the night.
The story, while never explicitly mentioning it, focuses on Sam's world coming apart through some event. He needs to find new meaning and purpose, which he finds in Tom, who offers him a helping hand in the darkness.
