Yet at the international level, there is a gap in the legal protection of women and girls from violence. This book critically analyses the UN system and three regional human rights systems as well as address the current gap in Asia in relation to this issue. The book proposes that the gap should be addressed through a new UN Convention or alternatively an Optional Protocol to the CEDAW, in order to promote a life free of violence for women and girls and to address the systemic challenges that are the causes and consequences of such violence.
