Description

In a world increasingly defined by haste, noise, and endless striving, Charles Wagner's timeless classic The Simple Life offers a profound invitation to return to what truly matters. First published in 1904, this eloquent and deeply human manifesto speaks with startling relevance to our modern age of anxiety and excess.

Wagner does not advocate for poverty or austerity, but for simplicity of soul - a life lived with clarity, integrity, and purpose. He reminds us that true contentment is not found in the accumulation of things, but in the cultivation of character, duty, and inner peace. With poetic wisdom, he explores the simplicity of thought, speech, needs, and pleasures, urging us to shed the burdens of envy, greed, and pretense.

Long cherished by thinkers and leaders - including Theodore Roosevelt - The Simple Life is more than a book; it is a compass for living. In these pages, you will discover that the art of living well lies not in complexity, but in the courage to be honestly, naturally human.

Charles Wagner (1852-1918) was a French Reformed pastor and theologian.

Born in Moselle, France, he studied in Paris, Strasbourg, and Germany before serving as a pastor in Remiremont and later founding the independent congregation Le Foyer de l'Âme in Paris. A leading figure in Protestantism in his time, he emphasized inner spirituality, moral integrity, and human brotherhood, influencing religious and ethical thought across Europe and the United States. His ideas earned international recognition, including an invitation to preach at the White House in 1904.
