The Story

Peter Somerville is an unhappy, unfulfilled man. On the surface he is a happily married, successful lawyer in a quiet English town. But Peter has a secret past and, almost inevitably, one day, that past catches up with him when his old partner in crime, Stephen, knocks on his office door. Stephen´s arrival starts a series of events which convey Peter to the wilds of Scotland and then to Spain´s Costa del Crime. During that journey he finds love and also meets the extraordinary Sam who will have a dramatic effect on him and his future.

The Author

Born in London, Bill Riley spent most of his working life in the British wine trade working his way up from wine shop assistant to ultimately owning a successful wine importing company. After taking retirement and unable to sit still for long he tried several occupations – as a white van man delivering fruit and vegetables, labouring in a frozen food warehouse, guiding visitors around a lighthouse, working with people with learning difficulties and finally tour guiding in an English vineyard.

Now he resides in Spain where he writes books and articles for magazines.

The Unlikely Crofter is his first novel but a second book is already in the offing.
