From the moment Xavior met Detective Mark Franklin, he knew this man was his mate. However, he makes a big mistake when he questions Mark's ability, because he is an Inert, a man not gifted with any powers.

Mark is tired of Animators and Celestials looking down on him and so many like him. He is a Detective with the Maine PD and has the highest arrest record of any cop on the force, even those gifted. When he is asked to go to Canada and see if he can help their MYSTIC agency locate the missing Europe agents, he is hesitant. First, Xavior is a man that sparks a huge interest with Mark, but the man is like all the others. When Xavior insists they are mates, Mark turns away, because he can never be with a man that doesn't trust Mark to have his back. Second, he is currently trying to locate the dealer of a new drug on the streets known as Valcor and it is killing Inerts all over his town.

When Mark goes into the Council building to get some intel, he discovers not only are some on the Council dirty, but they're also behind the Valcor plaguing the streets of Maine.

The two men now must learn to trust in each other, as they work to not only clean up the Council, but get the killer drug off the street. If they don't, Mark and Xavior may find themselves dead instead of mated.
