For over a century and a half, the Marquette Institute and the Department of Preternatural Activities (DPA) have been America's primary defense against the things that go bump in the night. It has been said that without the activities of this group and similar organizations, the human race would've fallen under the heel of dark forces long ago.
It's the first day at the Institute for Alan Quinn, a former United States Marine and the Valley of the Black Gate hero. He is greeted by the enigmatic Professor Quentin Sawyer, who tells him the dark tale of the Institute's founding and the danger they live alongside daily.
