Antimicrobials are powerful agents when used in well-appropriate manner. Local drug delivery of antimicrobial agents into periodontal pocket can enhance the health of periodontal tissues and can be used as an adjunct to the treatment of deep periodontal pockets and to provide a significant improvement in periodontal clinical aspects.NSAIDs are potent drugs in combating pain and inflammatory involvement of periodontium. The selection of analgesic is an issue of efficacy, safety, and cost. Compared to systemic administration, this approach would help to improve patient's compliance in long-term NSAIDs administration. It is likely that mechanical plaque control in conjunction with selective host modulators will become a practical approach in the management of periodontitis-susceptible patients.
