But...Chatain left a big mess behind, both magical and political. Betsona ea Ralsem, Chatain's magically-injured sister who is Witmara's heir and ally, is a powerful sorcerer but lacks the strength to rule due to the impact of her injuries. Along with Witmara, she seeks help from an overseas ally, Heinmyets of the Two Nations, to fix Daran's broken magic. But political problems and meddling Gods add more complications...and time is running out for a solution.
