Much has been written for popular consumption about the great moments, movements, and motives that have shaped the development of modern weightlifting and bodybuilding, but only since the 1970s has this literature received scholarly attention and respect. The essays in this volume fit the time period (1993-2021) when that newly framed academic genre was coalescing.
